Rate of Pay: £150 to £180 a day depending on experience
Work Pattern: Monday to Friday

The Secondary School MUSIC TEACHER is responsible for delivering high-quality music education to students aged 11–18, fostering creativity, musical skill, and an appreciation of music across a range of styles, traditions, and technologies. The role supports students’ academic progress, personal development, and engagement with the wider school community.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging music lessons in line with the national or school curriculum
- Teach a range of musical skills, including performance, composition, listening, and music theory
- Assess, monitor, and record student progress, providing constructive feedback
- Prepare students for examinations, performances, and assessments
- Manage classroom behaviour effectively to create a positive learning environment
- Organise and support extracurricular activities such as choirs, bands, ensembles, and school performances
- Use music technology and resources effectively, including notation software and recording tools
- Differentiate lessons to meet the needs of students of varying abilities and backgrounds
- Contribute to curriculum development and departmental planning
- Participate in school events, concerts, parents’ evenings, and professional development activities
- Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times
Person Specification
Essential
- Qualified Teacher Status (or equivalent)
- Degree in Music or a related subject
- Strong knowledge of music theory, performance, and composition
- Ability to teach across Key Stages (or equivalent secondary levels)
- Excellent communication and classroom management skills
- Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing
Desirable
- Ability to teach an instrument or vocal studies
- Experience preparing students for public examinations
- Experience leading extracurricular music activities
- Confidence using music technology and digital learning tools
Skills and Attributes
- Passion for music education and youth development
- Creativity and enthusiasm in lesson delivery
- Strong organisational and time-management skills
